Military secrets discovered on unprotected Web sites

A large number of military documents containing classified information that could affect the safety of U.S. troops in Afghanistan and Iraq have been left on unprotected servers for anyone with the right FTP address to access. A journalist of the Associated Press managed to download several documents including plans for national laboratories and air bases. Most of the military agencies closed down the servers in question when contacted by the Associated Press. The person who forgot to take it down probably didn't realize that hackers are known to constantly run scanners looking for open FTP servers. Even though government companies and agencies are becoming more sophisticated with each passing day, secure computing practices or habits seem to stagnate.
